Draupne EPP Client is a desktop application for editing domain records in the Norwegian Internet Registry database. The intended users are .no domain registrars.
The client was developed as a student assignment in the spring of 2008. The Norwegian Internet Registry (NORID) was an important stakeholder and set the requirements.
To help further development Open Source development methods are used.
Draupne EPP Client requires a modern computer able to run a Java 6 run-time environment. It is being developed on Windows XP and Linux. Mac OS is not supported.
The Sun Java 6 run-time is preferred. (Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0-b105))
Draupne EPP Client requires a Java6 Runtime Environment. The client is developed under Sun Java, and only tested with this version.
This software is available for free at http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
If you are using Linux it is probably an option to let the built-in package system install Java for you.
For Ubuntu Gutsy or Ubuntu Hardy the following command should work:
user@host:~$ sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre
Make sure you have the multiverse package source enabled. (System - Administration - Software sources)
Download the latest version of Draupne EPP Client from
http://draupnegui.sourceforge.net/
Choose the .jar download and save the file to disk.
On Windows the path C:Program Filesdraupnegui is recommended.
On Linux the file can be put into /opt/draupnegui/ or $HOME.
In Windows start the software by double-clicking on the .jar -file.
In Linux you start the software by running java -jar JARFILE.jar in the directory where you downloaded the software.
A login window should appear shortly.
This is a very high level description on how to use Draupne EPP Client to create a new domain.
The procedure described here is correct as of May 2008. There are some high-level business logic described, which the registry (NORID) may have changed. See http://www.norid.no/registrar/ for updated procedures.
The domain is now created.
To renew a domain that is about to expire, execute the following steps:
Renewals are per registry policy for 1 year.
Only Domain objects can be transferred. Content of Host and Contact records will be created automatically during the transfer operation.
This section will be further detailed at a later date.
To delete an unwanted domain or one registered by mistake:
Domain deletions may be queued by the server for administrative review.
Withdraw Domain is a NORID EPP extension. It transfers a domain from the current registrar to the registry. It is used in situations where a registrar don't want to sponsor the domain (or customer) any more.
The authenticated user must be the sponsoring registrar for the domain, this can be verified with Lookup.
Draupne EPP Client is designed and implemented to be without maintenance for the users.
The client will create some small log files on the hard drive. These may grow
over time, but is not required for the client to function. These files are
there to help debugging in case of serious errors and can safely be deleted if
there is a shortage of disk space.
